Directed by Norman Foster and released in 1952,
Harley Williams goes by the Nickname "Tumbleweed", not sure why the but it works for him. He seems like a small town bronco buster who has a Big City Rodeo fetish.
He enters Vegas by bus, the LAS VEGAS - TOONAPA - RENO - STAGE LINES, to be exact.
Steps into downtown Las Vegas at what would be the Plaza (Union Bus Station) and the shot widens to show Las Vegas Club on the left, Sal Sagev on the right and and in between lies 1950's autos parked along the side of 1950's Fremont Street. Standing out towards the back is a Young Vegas Vic behind the Monte Carlo Club.
He comes to Vegas with what he thought was...
He comes to Vegas with what he thought was enough cash to show off and enter every event at the Rodeo. He's a little short of cash so he stashes his gear at The Lucky 13 Club and heads out looking for a job. He cant find anything he's suited for but after winning a couple small jackpots he befriends Dixie a change girl at the club. They hit it off and she invites him on a Vegas style adventure, after he buys her lunch of course.
He wins big at a few Strip Casinos and offers to help Dixie get back to Kansas by splitting his winnings with her. She perks up to his offer, but eventually night comes and he goes on a losing streak. A blackjack dealer wipes him out, à la Chevy Chase in Vegas Vacation.
They both seems desperate at this point, that's when Dixie mysteriously comes up with a cheating device she got off a traveling salesman, they hatch their scheme but in the process actually win a jackpot fair and square. Unfortunately Harley drops the cheating device while celebrating his big win and he runs out before the law shows up. Now he and Dixie hit the open road to get her home and to never look back. After a few breakdowns and deep conversations on life and marriage Dixie decides to leave Harley with his winnings so he can get back to his dream of winning the Rodeo. He gets back to Vegas with his name cleared by Al the Casino owner and enters the Rodeo which he is promptly illuminated from. He proclaims he'll be back next year, roll credits and the lonely Cowboy ballad of Tumbleweed Williams.
