Golden Gate wants to add a 5 story (16 suite) hotel building to their properties south end.
A new colorful hotel front and digital backboard will really brighten up the area of Fremont to Carson, crossing at Main Street.
In 1906 Golden gate opened and today stands as the oldest hotel in Las Vegas.
As part of the makeover and add on they will be moving and updating the Deli(which we hate right now anyway) to the current lobby location and put the “new” lobby in the “new” building. The casino floor will be opened and roomier as a result.
14 of the suites contained in the new building will be large 500 sq. foot rooms and 2 will be on the top floor measuring 1600 sq. feet. Other plans include meeting rooms, conference rooms, and larger modern bathrooms. The older bathrooms will be torn out as part of expanding the casino.
About 25 new jobs will be available when this 30,000 sq. foot expansion is finished.
This is a 12 million dollar renovation and plans have passed by unanimous vote Tuesday. Now it needs to be approved by city council Oct. 19th.
Derek and Greg Stevens are majority owners of the Golden Gate. They believe the casino expansion should be finished by March and hope the hotel can open the new rooms in May. They realized the up swing in visitor numbers and gaming numbers recently and said its time to invest in their property as Golden Nugget and Plaza have done in addition to a modernizing phase of the downtown area. El Cortez and even the Golden Spike amped up there look inside and out over the past couple years and this is really going to help that properties look too.
I was recently in Golden Gate (SEE PHOTOS)and enjoyed the old look but agree with numerous visitors to downtown when they say it needs “something”.
Oh…. the famous shrimp cocktail will still be available during all the reconstruction and moving of the Deli and it will remain only $1.99.
